Wakefield Park final round for 2009
JENNINGS MACHINERY GLASS
Round four was expected to be raced in the wet but we had luck on our side once again and the rain went around the circuit leaving the competitors to fight it out in the dry.
Qualifying saw the two Honda powered Mini’s of Charlie Borg & Warren Bell yes dad gave his son a crack at his mighty mini on the front row with the wily old fox Allan Ross on third and beside him in fourth was Santino Di Carlo in his cross flow Mini. Fifth grid spot went to the ever smiling Wade Thomas and David Clark beside him in there iron heads.
Seventh on the grid was John Mallam in his cross flow and The Rock Canto ready to take on the world in eighth spot. Graham Bergan in his Honda Mini grabbed ninth position and Warwick Agustin in his “J” car topped the tenth spot. Sir Peter Wilson in his supercharged mini secured the eleventh position.
Race one was the usual five lap screamer that saw Borg lead from start to finish with bell holding second place from start to finish and Ross who had to beat Clark in every race to win his class started and finished third.
Di Carlo also finished in the position that he started in fourth. Clark got the better start between himself and Thomas but Thomas managed to pass Clark on the second lap to secure fifth and Clark finishing in sixth Bergan finished in seventh spot and Mallam raced in eighth position for the entire race. Agustin had a lonely race to finish in ninth and Wilson in tenth. Canto had a DNF due to a rocker failure.
Race two was also the usual five lapper and once again Borg lead from start to finish and the next five cars never changed position from start to finish. Bell second Ross third Di Carlo fourth Thomas fifth Clark sixth and now equal on points with Ross for second outright and class win so Clark needed to beat Ross in he final eight lap race. Mallam finished seventh with the Canto in eighth Augustin in ninth Wilson in tenth and a DNF for Bergan.
Race three was the ten lap trophy race and once again Borg ran away with the victory from Bell junior. Ross who started from third position missed a gear on lap eight to let Thomas passed but Thomas broke a gearbox on the next lap to let Ross back into third where he finished with Thomas managing to hold fourth with a broken gearbox.
Clark who started in sixth position moved up a position on lap four when Di Carlo pulled to the infield at turn eight with terminal mechanical problem to finish in fifth. The Rock Canto finished in sixth position. Agustin managed to only finish six laps due to mechanical failure. Wilson had a fuel leak and pull off the grid and had a ringside seat to watch the race from. Mallam failed to start the race for unknown reasons .
